iShowU Showed Me

May 2nd, 2007

I rarely need to record what I see and hear on the screen, but every now and then a reason pops up. I’d used some others in the past, but on my MacIntel I was looking for a Universal program. I stumbled on to iShowU.

iShowU allows you to capture and record anything you can see on your screen, along with audio from a compatible source (like a microphone) as well as any audio from the mac itself.

I recorded my actions while playing Food Force on my 2.16 GHz Intel iMac for more than 30 minutes. If you download Food Force (it was made with Director, so was running in Rosetta-mode) you’ll see that it included a wealth of video, audio, and game play. iShowU had no problem keeping up with it all, and it left a lovely 3 Gig movie sitting on my desktop. Even on my older 1.42 GHz PPC iBook the recording was smooth (although my fan got cranked up a bit).

For just $20 it is hard to beat the price.

Hi Raman, I’m not sure… I learned of this update through public weblogs myself. Here’s the page which should contain version-history info:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_19353

I’ll send a tickler internally, see if we can get some public info here.

As noticed by a few people on the DirGames list, this Shockwave update breaks keyboard focus on Internet Explorer, causing all kinds of fun behaviour such as “browser back button” event when user hits backspace, etc.

maybe a silly question. But what software do you know/recommend to do this on a PC. I rarely use my PC, only for playing with Gamemaker. If I need to explain something how to do it in Gamemaker, I would need something like this for windows.

I’ve never tried to do anything like a game on a PC. I use Captivate (very processor intensive…at least it always feels that way) at work to record demos on occasion, and one person I know uses “My Screen Recorder” on the PC (I’ve never seen the program in action).

Does anyone know what the compatability of Director MX projectors running under Vista is like? I’ve been trying to find information on this, but Adobes compatability document is very vague. Is this Shockwave update the only issue with Director files under Vista?

I designed a tricky web browser by using Adobe Director. It allows you to switch your web browser and a fake Microsoft Word document easily. It’s a freeware and no installation required. If you are interested, visit

I’ve tried to play shockwave under vista
    my computer
    windows vista premium
    cpu: core duo 1.88 GHZ
    ram: 2 gb
    video card: 131.3 ram
I think my computer is pretty ok on running everything except for shockwave but my computer can’t run any shockwave game
It’s just laggy and all the sudden the iexplorer closes. any shockwave update is required
