Updated Shockwave Released (for Vista?)
April 23rd, 2007
A new version of the Shockwave plug-in (for Windows) was released earlier today (now up to version 10.2.0.021). If anyone knows what is updated, please leave a comment. As was announced at the eLearning conference, it is supposed to add support for Vista.

Is MacIntel next? I hope so.
Update: Discussion on mailing lists indicates that this update made the following changes.
- Vista support for DirectX 7 rendering of 3D members.
- Removed registration form from install process.
- Removed need to restart browser after install.
All are nice new features. The last one is really nice.

At these Adobe webpage :
http://www.adobe.com/products/director/special/crossproduct/faq.html
where they speak of the next Director upgrade, they talk about “multiuser support” for the next version.
I wonder if it will be based upon the old multiuser xtra (that I still use, eseentially for peer-to-peer conenction). That would be marvelous…

Hi Raman, I’m not sure… I learned of this update through public weblogs myself. Here’s the page which should contain version-history info:

I’ll send a tickler internally, see if we can get some public info here.

As noticed by a few people on the DirGames list, this Shockwave update breaks keyboard focus on Internet Explorer, causing all kinds of fun behaviour such as “browser back button” event when user hits backspace, etc.

Does anyone know what the compatability of Director MX projectors running under Vista is like? I’ve been trying to find information on this, but Adobes compatability document is very vague. Is this Shockwave update the only issue with Director files under Vista?

I’ve tried to play shockwave under vista
my computer
windows vista premium
cpu: core duo 1.88 GHZ
ram: 2 gb
video card: 131.3 ram
I think my computer is pretty ok on running everything except for shockwave but my computer can’t run any shockwave game
It’s just laggy and all the sudden the iexplorer closes. any shockwave update is required

I am having problems on getting Shockwave 11 working on Vista. Funnily enough the “.dcr” runs with no problems when accessed from the browser URL entry field, but the preceeding “.HTM” which calls the Shockwave “dcr” file doesnt load the movie. Had virtually no problems with Shockwave 10 and Windows XP and Director MX. So I suspect it is all tied up with Vista. Hopefully the urgent next release of Windows (required to solve the inadequancy of Vista) will fix SOME of these browser ADD ONs.

Michael-
We’ve been viewing our content (ExploreLearning) with no problems on Windows Vista. There might be something odd in the html that is causing the problem. Or maybe Firefox or IE issue.
I really wish plugins would behave in a sane fashion.
